Most people feel very little. Acupuncture needles are far finer than the ones used for injections or blood tests. You may notice a brief prick as a needle is placed, then a dull, heavy or warm sensation around the point that usually settles within moments. Tell your acupuncturist at any time if something feels uncomfortable — the technique is adjusted to your tolerance.

No. You can book acupuncture directly with our Registered Acupuncturist. Some insurance plans require a referral for reimbursement, so it is worth checking your policy before your first visit.

Many extended health plans include a separate acupuncture benefit, and treatment provided by a Registered Acupuncturist is generally what those plans require. Coverage varies by plan, so call us at 905-674-6477 and we will help you check your benefits before you book.

Acupuncture performed by a Registered Acupuncturist using sterile, single-use needles is considered very safe. Minor, short-lived effects such as slight bruising, tenderness at the point or brief light-headedness can occur. Tell your acupuncturist if you are pregnant, take blood thinners, have a bleeding disorder, or have a pacemaker or other implanted device, so your treatment can be adapted.

Your first visit starts with a full health history and assessment so your acupuncturist understands your symptoms, sleep, stress and general health. They will explain the plan and answer your questions before any needles are used. Needles are then placed and usually left in for a short rest period. Many people find the session deeply relaxing.
